AA/15/AS/21SEC - Joint Statement on RPT evaluations in the context of COVID-19 pandemic

Effective Fall 2021


 

WHEREAS: The novel COVID-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of university life, including the teaching, research, service, and professional preparation and development of faculty engaged in the Retention, Promotion, and Tenure [RPT] process; and

WHEREAS: Time dedicated by faculty to create and maintain alternative modes of instruction has increased and time available for research and service has therefore decreased; and

WHEREAS: The University RPT Committee, the Provost, and the Deans of the respective colleges issued on September 16, 2021, the attached Joint Statement on RPT evaluations in the context of COVID-19 pandemic that university reviewers must take the circumstances of the pandemic into account and that department level reviewers are encouraged to do the same; be it therefore

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate affirms the purpose and language of the attached Joint Statement; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate urges departments to consider their RPT review processes and how they might be best implemented to appropriately to address how the balance of the work of their faculty has changed within the context of the Joint Statement and of the COVID-19 pandemic.
