AA/29/AS/20/SEC - Lecturer Evaluations in the Context of COVID-19 Pandemic Effective Fall 2020 WHEREAS: The novel COVID-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of university life, including the teaching and other duties listed in the appointment letters of non-tenure track faculty; and
WHEREAS: The University RPT Committee, the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Deans of the respective colleges issued on August 20 of this year a Joint Statement on Retention, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) evaluations in the context of COVID-19 pandemic that university reviewers must take the circumstances of the pandemic into account and that department level reviewers are encouraged to do the same; and
WHEREAS: The August 20, 2020 Joint Statement on RPT evaluations addressed neither the COVID-19 pandemic’s impacts on the teaching and other duties listed in the appointment letters of non-tenure track faculty, nor did the statement provide guidance to university and department level reviewers for considering the aforementioned impacts in their evaluations of non-tenure track faculty; be it therefore
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate strongly urges university and department reviewers to take into consideration the COVID-19 pandemic’s impacts on the teaching and other duties listed in appointment letters of non-tenure track faculty; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate strongly urges university and department reviewers of non-tenure track faculty to apply the Joint Statement on RPT evaluations whenever feasible.
