AA/13/AS/96/UEPC - Guidelines for Cross-Listed and Dual-Listed Courses

Effective June 4, 1996

Cross-listed courses are those offered by two academic disciplines at either the undergraduate or graduate level, for example, WMST/ANTH 3900. Dual-listed courses are those offered by a single discipline using both an undergraduate and graduate course number, or a lower division and upper division course number, for example, HIST 2000/4000.

Cross-listed courses are permitted when clear academic or programmatic advantages are demonstrated. The multidisciplinary prefix is preferred for cross-listed courses offered outside a single department or school. Dual-listed courses should only be used where necessary for justifiable curricular purposes. Course requirements for dual-listed courses are expected to be more rigorous for the upper division or graduate students and such additional course requirements and standards of performance should be stated on the course syllabi.
