The Food Industry is one of the largest employers in the region.  The Food Modernization Act of 2010 increased the focus of food safety to prevention.  As a result, food safety is crucial to the food industry and to the consumers dependent on that industry.  Students interested in working in the food industry will find opportunities, especially within the area of Food Safety. 

Students who earn a Biological Sciences B.S.  and who complete the following courses (an appropriate prerequisites) will have broad training in areas related to Food Safety.  Complete the following courses:

Biology students interested in pursuing training in Food Safety should select a concentration in Molecular and Microbial Biology and a minor in Chemistry.
