HIST 4690 - United States Sport Since the Civil War

(Formerly Sport in America Since the Civil War) An analysis of the development of sport and its impact in American society from the late nineteenth century to the present. The lectures will follow a chronological order and class members will examine such topics as industrialization, nationalism, social mobility, gender, ethnicity, and behaviorism with respect to America’s sport heritage.

Prerequisites: One year of college-level history or consent of instructor.
