Literature Concentration - English B.A. (*Pending approval for Fall 2026)

This is a concentration within the Bachelor of Arts program in English. Please view the information for the English B.A.  in conjunction with this concentration information.

The Literature Concentration is available to students earning a Bachelor’s degree in English. Its curriculum is designed to expose students to a wide variety of literature across genres, periods, and cultural traditions. Prioritizing literary analysis skills, theoretical frameworks, and writing within the discipline, this program prepares students to evaluate, contextualize, and critically engage with diverse literatures and other forms of cultural production. With a strong focus on deep textual analysis, this program equips students with skills central to several career trajectories, including teaching, researching, writing, publishing, and advanced study.

1. Complete the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements


A student must comply with all University regulations and satisfy the following requirements:

  1. Units and Residency  (minimum of 120 units: 40 units of upper division coursework and 30 semester units at Stanislaus State. At least 24 of these 30 units must be earned in upper-division courses, at least 12 must be in the major, and at least 9 must be applicable to General Education-Breadth requirements)
  2. Baccalaureate Degree Requirements  (minimum grade point average of 2.0 (C) or better)
  3. General Education Program  (minimum of 43 units)
  4. Upper Division Writing Proficiency  (minimum of 3 units)
    - Writing Proficiency (WP) Course (may double count in the major)
  5. United States Constitution and California State and Local Government   (minimum of 3 units)
  6. Sociocultural Inquiry Requirement  (minimum of 3 units) (may double count with General Education requirements or in the major)
  7. Skills for Student Success  (minimum of 1 unit) and Life-long Learning Skills  (minimum of 1 unit) 

Subsequently, all students must submit an application for graduation and receive approval from the major advisor and department chair. For more information see the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements .
