Students in the Master of Arts in School Administration will earn an M.A., and have the option of also earning the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential required for administrative positions in TK-12 schools in California. Enrollment in the program offers three options for completing the capstone activity: (1) thesis, (2) project, and (3) comprehensive examination. The courses in the M.A. in School Administration with preliminary administrative services credential program are designed to prepare leaders who will assume leadership positions in TK-12 schools and districts.

Licensure/Credentialing Requirements
Admission into programs leading to licensure or credentialing does not guarantee that students will obtain a license or credential. Licensure or credential requirements are set by agencies that are not controlled by or affiliated with the CSU and requirements can change at any time. For example, licensure requirements can include evidence of the right to work in the United States (e.g., social security number or tax payer identification number) and successfuly passing a criminal background check. Students are responsible for determining whether they can meet licensure or credentialing requirements. The CSU will not refund tuition, fees, or any associated costs, to students who determine subsequent to admission that they cannot meet licensure or credentialing requirements. Prerequisites: To be considered for admission to the M.A. in School Administration program, the applicant must: - Possess a baccalaureate degree.
- Have at least a 2.75 GPA in the last 60 units earned.
- Possess a valid teaching or service credential.
Application Process
The applicant must: -
Complete the University application online (Cal State Apply), which includes: -
Upload a Letter of Sponsorship from your school or district administration with the University Application. -
Upload proof of a valid teaching or service credential to the last University application. -
Submit Official transcripts to the University. -
Submit the program (application and receipt for the program application) fee to the Department of Advanced Studies in Education Office. General Information
1. Grade Requirements: The minimum academic grade-point average for all courses leading to the Credential and/or MA degree is 3.0. The minimum acceptable grade for coureses included in the MA degree is a “C”. 2. Final Requirements: To obtain the required recommendation for the M.A. from Stanislaus State, the student must: - Complete all of the coursework required in the M.A. program.
- Demonstrate competency in the knowledge and skill areas of the program.
- Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 for all coursework required for the program.
- Apply and complete graduation paperwork/requirements.
3. Coursework expires seven years from completion and cannot be applied toward the Master’s degree. One-third of units may be revalidated if less than 10 years old. This applies to all Master’s degree options: thesis, project, or comprehensive examination. Note: Early registration is strongly recommended. Class size is limited; consequently, enrollment is not guaranteed. Program Requirements
(30 units) Candidated enrolled in the Master’s in School Administration will have the option to earn a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (ASC). The Preliminary Administration Services Credential authorizes the holder to perform administrative services (such as certificated evaluation, student discipline, employee discipline, and instructional program evaluation and asessment) in California schools, Grades Pre-K, K-12, and Adult Education. The comprehensive exaimination options are satisfied by the submission of one of the following:
- Passing all thre Cycles of California Administrator Performance Assessment (CalAPA) on the first attempt within two years of program enrollment. Passing scores are determined by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), Assessment (CalAPA) and are subject to change as determined by the Commission. The CalAPA comprenensive examination option is retroactive for candidates who began the school administration program after July 1, 2018. The cadidate is responsible for registering for the examination and paying all required fees.
- Passing scores from the School Leadership Licensure Assessment (SLLA). A minimum passing scales score for the SLLA is 173.
- Passing scores from teh California Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Examination (CPACE). The minimum passing scaled score for CPACE-Content subtest is 220, and the minimum passing scared score for the CPACE-Performance subtest is required to pass the CPACE Examination.
The candidate shall provide the Advanced Studies Office with passage verification. Additional information regarding the SLLA may be found at the ETS School Leadership Series website. The CPACE and CalAPA information are located on the California Educator Credentialing Assessment website.
