Adam Devitt, Ph.D., ECEC Program Coordinator

The Early Childhood Education Credential (ECEC) is a 36-unit program that prepares preschool, and transitional kindergarten to 3rd grade teachers to effectively design and implement research and evidence-based developmentally appropriate learning practices in an educational setting. Students build a solid foundation in the science of learning, teaching for social justice, special education and assessment, and pedagogical approaches for early learners in literacy, English language development, and STEM. Play and activity-based pedagogies will be integrated in all coursework. Additional course work will focus on supporting the classroom learning environment, strengthening family engagement, and elevating professional practices. Finally, students will practice applying their knowledge in two 240-hour supervised student teaching practicums; one in preschool/transitional kindergarten and one in kindergarten to 3rd grade.
