The Health Science major provides undergraduate students with a broad-based curriculum designed to prepare them with the foundational knowledge, skills, and professional values necessary to succeed in a variety of health-related careers and fields that advance health in their communities and globally. Courses within the curriculum prepare students with a comprehensive understanding of epidemiology, health program planning, health research, health policy and systems, professional standards, and an exploration of local and global health issues within a multicultural society. The Health Science degree provides appropriate undergraduate education to pursue graduate work in public health, health services, health policy, and other professional health degrees, such as Nursing, Physician Assistant, Social work, etc.

Health Leadership and Administration Concentration

The concentration in Health Leadership and Administration (HLA) provides students with an interdisciplinary education that will support them in a wide range of entry and middle management careers within the private/community/public health workforce sector. Students in the HLA concentration will be prepared to provide leadership, advocacy, budgeting, communication, management, and evaluation of services in health settings. This concentration also provides the education needed to pursue graduate work in health care, public, and business administration.

Health Informatics and Data Analytics (HIDA) Concentration

Health Informatics and Data Analytics (HIDA) focuses on the intersection of healthcare, information technology, and data analysis. This specialization prepares students to harness data to improve health outcomes, streamline operations, and support decision-making in healthcare settings. Students will gain proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, R, Python), an understanding of health information systems and database management, and knowledge of health regulations and ethical considerations. HIDA graduates may find career opportunities in hospitals, health agencies, insurance companies, and health tech firms as health data analysts, informatics specialists, health IT consultants, and clinical informaticists.

Bachelor of Science in Health Science

1. Complete the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements.

A student must comply with all University regulations and satisfy the following requirements:

Units and Residency (minimum of 120 units: 40 units of upper division coursework and 30 semester units at Stanislaus State. At least 24 of these 30 units must be earned in upper-division courses, at least 12 must be in the major, and at least 9 must be applicable to General Education-Breadth requirements)
Baccalaureate Degree Requirements (minimum grade point average of 2.0 (C) or better)
General Education (minimum of 49 units)
Upper Division Writing Proficiency (minimum of 3 units)
- Writing Proficiency (WP) Course (may double count in the major)
United States Constitution and California State and Local Government (minimum of 3 units)
Sociocultural Inquiry Requirement (minimum of 3 units) (may double count with General Education requirements or in the major)

Practicum Equivalency

Up to six upper division units of credit toward the Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science may be granted based on verification of clinical work experience in a field associated with Health Science. One unit of credit can be received for 60 hours of clinical work performed post program completion over a 6-month time period. Students must successfully complete three Health Science core courses with a grade of C or better before seeking approval of these units. Students seeking the 6 unit maximum will need to verify 360 clinical hours over a two-year period. To request unit credit, the student will need to present a portfolio verifying specialty program completion, certification if appropriate, and related work experience in a Health Science associated field (e.g. radiography, sonography, and emergency medical technician).
