The Ethnic Studies Professional Certificate program provides an Ethnic Studies, social justice and critical course of study that integrates theory with practice. This program prepares professionals in service fields such as social work, nursing and both K-12 and university level educators and adminstrators to serve communities, clients and students in equitable and sustainable ways. This certificate qualifies program graduates to fulfill diversity, equity and inclusion roles and job-related tasks as well as Ethnic Studies positions.
The learning outcomes for the certificate program are:
- Students will examine the field of Ethnic Studies, including awareness of principles, concepts, theories, pedagogies, and/or methods
- Students will describe the histories and experiences of marginalized racial and ethnic groups in the United States from a regional, national, and/or global perspective.
- Students will demonstrate community engagement by participating in activities that center on knowledge, culture, and/or contributions of marginalized populations.
- Students will create original projects that promote awareness of equity through intellectual, creative, and/or collective ways.
- Students will implement critical self-awareness of how they are situated within systems and structures of power, privilege, and oppression.
