Music Education - Subject Matter Preparation Program

The Single Subject Matter Preparation Program in Music is a sequence of courses designed to prepare music students to become successful music teachers in K-12 school settings. Students receive education in a variety of musical disciplines and pedagogical approaches, including choral, instrumental, general, and world music. The program is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. All music students may enroll in Subject Matter Preparation Program courses, though students must complete the full curriculum, listed below to obtain documentation of successful completion of the subject matter preparation program.  Please note: this is an optional waiver program, not a degree program, concentration, track, or emphasis.

Requirements


Students must complete the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements and Music BM degree requirements, in addition to the following:
