Program Learning Outcomes

Further develop analytical and critical reading skills in Spanish, demonstrating the ability to read, comprehend and interpret a variety of culturally diverse literary, non-literary, visual and multi-media texts.
Demonstrate formal writing skills in Spanish that exhibit a solid control of the grammar and well-developed arguments including: thesis, focus, explanation, description, supportive arguments, examples, textual support, and supportive bibliography.
Understand and interpret the target language and gain the ability to present information, concepts, and ideas in the target language to a diverse audience of listeners or readers.

Requirements

1. Complete the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements.

A student must comply with all University regulations and satisfy the following requirements:

Units and Residency (minimum of 120 units: 40 units of upper division coursework and 30 semester units at Stanislaus State. At least 24 of these 30 units must be earned in upper-division courses, at least 12 must be in the major, and at least 9 must be applicable to General Education-Breadth requirements)
Grade Point Average (minimum grade point average of 2.0 (C) or better)
General Education (minimum of 49 units)
Upper Division Writing Proficiency (minimum of 3 units)
- Pass the Writing Proficiency Screening Test (WPST)
- Writing Proficiency (WP) Course (may double count in the major)
United States Constitution and California State and Local Government (minimum of 3 units)
Multicultural Requirement (minimum of 3 units) (may double count with General Education requirements or in the major)

Subsequently all students must submit an application for graduation and receive approval from the major advisor, department chair, and Director of Academic Advising. For more information see the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements .

2. Complete the following prerequisites to the major:

a. The following two courses (or their equivalent):

(6 units)

OR
(6 units)

AP exemption (Spanish Literature)

b. One of the following two-course sequences (or their equivalent):

(8 units)

(6 units)

AP exemption (Spanish Language)

3. Complete the major of not less than 24 upper-division units.

No more than 8 units of CR-graded course work in courses graded exclusively CR/NC may apply toward the major.

Note:

A student who can demonstrate equivalent preparation may be exempt from 4 to 14 units of the lower-division requirement. Two years of college-level Spanish or the equivalent is required for admission to upper-division courses.

Completion of an academic minor in a related discipline is not required, but is strongly recommended for single subject credential candidates.
