The Latin American Studies Minor provides students with an inter-disciplinary perspective on a diverse and vast region vital to the Central Valley, California, and the U.S. The program is designed to foster an understanding and appreciation of Latin America today through a wide range of disciplines in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Faculty advisers encourage students to be creative and design a specialization that complements a number of competitive majors including Anthropology, Business, History, Political Science, and Journalism. The minor encourages students in the classroom, study abroad experience, and extracurricular activity such as the annual colloquium series.

Requirements

Note: A student who can demonstrate equivalent preparation may be exempt from three to six units of the lower-division requirement. Students may also use equivalent preparation from a Study Abroad experience to fulfill the core requirement if approved by the Director of Latin American Studies.

2. Select twelve elective units from the following list of upper division courses:

Courses should be selected with attention to gaining breadth of experience so the student will have taken courses from at least three disciplines in the minor. Additional courses may be included in the minor if approved by the Director of Latin American Studies.

Note:

If applicable, six units of Study Abroad experience as part of the 12 unit requirement may be accepted.
