Baccalaureate Degree Requirements Advising Sheet

Criminal Justice B.A.

The student may request that the criminal justice faculty waive up to 9 upper-division units of criminal justice coursework based on documented completion of related college coursework and/or work experience.

Requirements


1. Complete the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements.


A student must comply with all University regulations and satisfy the following requirements:

  1. Units and Residency  (minimum of 120 units: 40 units of upper division coursework and 30 semester units at Stanislaus State. At least 24 of these 30 units must be earned in upper-division courses, at least 12 must be in the major, and at least 9 must be applicable to General Education-Breadth requirements)
  2. Grade Point Average  (minimum grade point average of 2.0 (C) or better)
  3. General Education  (minimum of 49 units)
  4. Upper Division Writing Proficiency  (minimum of 3 units)
    - Pass the Writing Proficiency Screening Test (WPST)
    - Writing Proficiency (WP) Course (may double count in the major)
  5. United States Constitution and California State and Local Government  (minimum of 3 units)
  6. Multicultural Requirement  (minimum of 3 units) (may double count with General Education requirements or in the major)

Subsequently all students must submit an application for graduation and receive approval from the major advisor, department chair, and Director of Academic Advising. For more information see the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements .

The following General Education courses are recommended for all Criminal Justice majors:

3. For concentrations in Corrections, Criminal Legal Studies, Law Enforcement, and Juvenile Justice


Complete no less than 40 upper-division units in Criminal Justice or specific Sociology courses.

4. For the Forensic Science concentration, complete no less than 46 upper-division units.


The degree in Criminal Justice with a Forensic Science concentration requires the completion of no less than 62 units total.

5. Maintain a grade point average of 2.00 or better in the major.


Completion of a minor is not required.

The Major


(40 upper-division units)

Complete one of the following concentrations:


  • Law Enforcement
  • Corrections
  • Forensic Science
  • Juvenile Justice
  • Criminal Legal Studies

Law Enforcement Concentration


(19 units minimum)

The following are required to complete the Criminal Justice major (56 units total) with a Law Enforcement concentration:

  1. Lower-division prerequisites, 16 units
  2. Core courses, 21 units
  3. Concentration courses, 19 units

Corrections Concentration


(19 units minimum)

The following are required to complete the Criminal Justice major (56 units total) with a Corrections concentration:

  1. Lower-division prerequisites, 16 units
  2. Core courses, 21 units
  3. Concentration courses, 19 units

Criminal Legal Studies Concentration


(19 units minimum)

The following are required to complete the Criminal Justice major (57 units total) with a Criminal Legal Studies concentration:

  1. Lower-division prerequisites, 16 units
  2. Core courses, 21 units
  3. Concentration courses, 19 units

Forensic Science Concentration


(25-27 units minimum)

Juvenile Justice Concentration


(19 units minimum)

The following are required to complete the Criminal Justice major (56 units total) with a Juvenile Justice concentration:

  1. Lower-division prerequisites, 16 units
  2. Core courses, 21 units
  3. Concentration courses, 19 units
