Art B.A.

Art students gain exposure to a broad spectrum of interconnected approaches to the making of art and the critical appreciation of art. The faculty members are dedicated professional artists and scholars who bring a diverse range of experience and expertise to the classroom. Students benefit from close interaction and mentoring. The visual arts program is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The Art B.A. offers two concentrations: Art History and Studio. Students wishing to enter a credential program have the option to complete the Art Subject Matter Preparation Program in addition to one of the two concentrations.*

Requirements

1. Complete the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements.

A student must comply with all University regulations and satisfy the following requirements:

  1. Units and Residency  (minimum of 120 units: 40 units of upper division coursework and 30 semester units at Stanislaus State. At least 24 of these 30 units must be earned in upper-division courses, at least 12 must be in the major, and at least 9 must be applicable to General Education-Breadth requirements)
  2. Grade Point Average  (minimum grade point average of 2.0 (C) or better)
  3. General Education  (minimum of 49 units)
  4. Upper Division Writing Proficiency  (minimum of 3 units)
    - Pass the Writing Proficiency Screening Test (WPST)
    - Writing Proficiency (WP) Course (may double count in the major)
  5. United States Constitution and California State and Local Government  (minimum of 3 units)
  6. Multicultural Requirement  (minimum of 3 units) (may double count with General Education requirements or in the major)

Subsequently all students must submit an application for graduation and receive approval from the major advisor, department chair, and Director of Academic Advising. For more information see the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements .

Note: Students pursuing the Art History Concentration are encouraged to satisfy, in part, the General Education requirements in Area C by taking a foreign language.

2. Complete the lower-division prerequisites to the major.

(18 units for Art History Concentration and 27 units for Studio Concentration)

a. Complete the following courses per your concentration requirements.

Art History Concentration students only take 3 courses (9 units).

Studio Concentration students must take all of the following courses (18 units).

b. Complete each of the following Art History courses.

(6 units)

c. Complete one of the following courses.

(3 units)

3. Complete a concentration in the major.

Complete one of the following concentrations:

*Optional: Art Subject Matter Preparation Program

Students wishing to enter a credential program should complete the Art Subject Matter Preparation Program in addition to at least one of the two concentrations.
