The Pre-Health Professions Certificate program is designed for “career changers” —individuals who have already earned an undergraduate degree, but lack the necessary required course for admission into a professional school.  This program is primarily designed for individuals who have been in the workforce for two or more years who wish to make a career change.  It is intended for those who have not taken the courses required for admission to medical and other health professional schools.  Consequently, this program is not designed for students who wish to repeat or supplement prior science coursework.

Admission Requirements

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a recommended grade point average of at least 3.0 out of a possible 4.0.
  2. Successful completion of one of the following courses or their equivalents:
    MATH 1080 - Trigonometry * or
    MATH 1100 - Precalculus
*Please consult the catalog for undergraduate-level course descriptions. A grade of B or better in either math course is a required prerequisite for MATH 1910 - Calculus with Applications I
  3. Two letters of recommendation.  Recommendation letters should be from professors, employers, supervisors, or others who know the candidate well and can speak to the applicant’s academic ability, interpersonal skills, maturity, and promise as a health care provider.
  4. Transcripts of all attended post-secondary colleges or universities.
  5. Résumé or CV.
  6. A personal statement describing why the candidate is attracted to the health professions and an elaboration of his/her career aspirations.
  7. A personal interview by the Program Director is required.  Approval for admission is by the Program Director of the Pre-Health Professions Certificate Program and the CSU Stanislaus Graduate School.
  8. Students who are not admitted to the certificate program may enroll in individual courses on a space-available basis and with the permission of the program director.  Priority course registration is given to students admitted to the certificate program.
