AGEC 5550 - Applied Research Methods in Agricultural Science3 unit(s) Students will develop skills to design, conduct, and evaluate applied research in agriculture and related fields, utilizing appropriate methodologies to address issues in food systems, agricultural practices, and educational settings.
Agriculture Education specialist credential requirement.
Prerequisites: Admission into the agriculture education credential program or instructor’s permission.
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will be able to:

Analyze existing agricultural education research studies, identifying methodologies, strengths, weaknesses, and implications for classroom practice (PLO 1 & 2);

Design and implement small-scale classroom-based research or action research projects that evaluate instructional methods or student outcomes in agricultural education settings (PLO 2, 4 & 5);

Evaluate data and assess the effectiveness of agricultural teaching strategies, using both qualitative and quantitative tools to support data-driven decision-making (PLO 1, 2 & 5); and,

Develop a research proposal addressing a key issue in agricultural education (e.g., student engagement in SAEs, inclusion in FFA, sustainable agriculture curriculum), integrating literature review, methodology, and expected contributions to the field (PLO 1, 2 & 3).
