ENVR 4853 - Environmental and Natural Resources Geographic Information Systems

(Same as: GEOG 4853) Concepts and applications of environmental and natural resource geographic information systems; environmental and natural resources data types, collection, analysis, and output using GIS applications; problem solving, such as species habitat mapping, watershed modeling, and conservation planning.

Prerequisites: GEOG 4750 or consent of instructor.

Hours: (Lecture, 2 hours; Laboratory, 2 hours)

  • Describe how GIS can be used to address environmental and natural resources questions. (PLO 1)
  • Identify and acquire sources of publicly available spatial datasets relevant to current environmental and natural resources issues. (PLO 1)
  • Customize data and perform various types of environmental analysis using standard GIS software. (PLO 1 & 3)
  • Design and conduct a work flow using spatial analyst and other GIS tools to address specific environmental and natural resources questions. (PLO 1 & 4)
  • Present results of analysis in a professional format such as maps and tables. (PLO 5)
