GEOG 4853 - Environmental and Natural Resources Geographic Information Systems3 unit(s) (Same as ENVR 4853) Concepts and applications of environmental and natural resource geographic information systems; environmental and natural resources data types, collection, analysis, and output using GIS applications; problem solving, such as species habitat mapping, watershed modeling, and conservation planning.
Prerequisites: GEOG 4750 or consent of instructor.
Hours: (Lecture, 2 hours; Laboratory, 2 hours)

- Describe how GIS can be used to address environmental and natural resources questions (PLO #1);
- Identify and acquire sources of publicly available spatial datasets relevant to current environmental and natural resources issues (PLO #1);
- Customize data and perform various types of environmental analysis using standard GIS software (PLO #1; PLO #3);
- Design and conduct a work flow using spatial analyst and other GIS tools to address specific environmental and natural resources questions (PLO #1; PLO #4); and,
- Present results of analysis in a professional format such as maps and tables (PLO #5).
