ACC 4190 - Accounting Data Analytics4 unit(s) To synthesize theory and application to prepare students for the dynamics of real-world professional accounting practice: diagnosing problems and issues, analyzing relevant information, making decisions, and reporting decision results and recommendations. To focus on analytical techniques and provides hands-on experience to develop skills with select business analysis technologies.
Prerequisites: Change from:
ACC 4160, ACC 4120 (may be taken concurrently) and ACC 4140 (may be taken concurrently)
to new prerequisites:
ACC 3110 and CIS 3700
Hours: (Lecture, 3 hours; laboratory, 1 hour)
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will be able to: -
Identify the six elements of the critical thinking framework (SPARKS) (PLO #1);
- Discuss the three stages (Plan, Analyze, Report) of the data analysis process model (PLO #1);
- Apply sustainable, documented, and defendable data analysis processes (PLO #1);
- Prepare, interpret, and communicate data analysis results in five accounting areas: accounting information systems, auditing, financial, managerial, and tax accounting (PLO #1);
- Apply a pattern-based approach to profiling, cleaning, and transforming data, calculating information for analytical purposes, and exploring key data relationships (PLO #1);
- Use the software tools to create data analytics solutions for accounting problems (PLO #1); and,
- Create data visualizations and tell a compelling story with data (PLO #2).
