Introduction to the examination of the developing child (birth - adolescence) in a societal context focusing on the interrelationship of family, school and community and emphasizing historical and socio-cultural factors. The processes and theories of socialization will be highlighted, discussing the importance of respectful, reciprocal relationships between children, families, schools, and community resources that support and empower families.
