CDEV 2200 - Principles and Practices of Teaching & Parenting Young Children3 unit(s) An examination of the underlying theoretical principles of developmentally appropriate practices applied to programs, homes, and other early child environments including best practices for environmental design and curriculum, and teaching, parenting, and guidance strategies.
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will be able to:
- Identify children’s developmental processes and describe adaptations to interactions, activities, and environments needed to support all children from both the perspective of parents and teachers [PLO 2,]
- Compare and contrast principles of positive guidance and interactions from both the perspective of parents and teachers [PLO 1, 2, 5]
- Describe the characteristics of effective relationships and interactions between early childhood professionals, parents, children, families, and colleagues including the importance of collaboration [PLO 2, 5]
- Identify components of a play-based curriculum that is developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate and supports the development of all young children [PLO 1, 3]
- Identify components of play-based parent-child interactions that are developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate and support the development of their young children [PLO 1, 3]
- Identify the historical roots, learning theories, and professional pathways in early childhood education including ethical and professional standards [PLO 5]
- Investigate various foundations and theories in the field of early childhood education as a basis for forming a personal philosophy of teaching and parenting [PLO 1, 5]
- Describe the relationship of observation, planning, implementation, and assessment in effective programming [PLO 4, 5]
