KINS 4590 - Public Health Research and Evaluation3 unit(s) Course provides a theoretical introduction and applied experience with methods for undertaking public health research and program evaluation. Students will be introduced to measurement theory and statistics commonly used in the evaluation of public health programs as well as tools for measurement of health status at various levels. Open to Seniors Only.
Prerequisites: MATH 1600; BIO 1010/1020; ZOOL 2235; ZOOL 2250; KINS 2000; KINS 4030; KINS 4550.
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will be able to:
- Explain the major concepts in health program evaluation (PLO #1);
- Develop an understanding of research design in evaluating health promotion programs (PLO #5, 6, 7);
- Select quantitative and qualitative data collection methods appropriate for evaluating given public health context (PLO #6, 7);
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative data using software, as appropriate (PLO #1, 6);
- Interpret results of data analysis for public health research, policy or practice (PLO #6, 7);
- Evaluate social and behavioral interventions to address public health issues. (PLO #6, 7); and,
- Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate research and evaluation results (PLO #4).
