LEAD 4000 - Leadership, Collaboration, and Conflict3 unit(s) Conflict and collaboration are fundamental to effective leadership with diverse and dispersed work groups. Students will become familiar with different ways of exercising leadership, their own strengths and weaknesses, and how they can best work with others in group and team-oriented leadership contexts to resolve conflicts effectively. They will learn and apply leadership and conflict skills in a hands-on collaborative approach that encourages them to challenge their own beliefs and assumptions about what constitutes leadership.
Prerequisites: Junior standing or consent of instructor.
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will:
- Describe the nature of conflict in interpersonal, group and organizational contexts;
- Explain the link among key practical and theoretical concepts of productive dialogue, mediation and conflict transformation for effective collaboratve leadership (PLO#3);
- Relate the importance of assessing one’s own conflict management style (PLO#2);
- Articulate their awareness of their emotional reaction to other people’s behavior and how to deal with people they find “difficult” in a positive and constructive manner; and,
- Recognize and critically analyze when it is appropriate to use the various approaches to managing, mediating, resolving and/or transforming conflict with diverse audiences.
