ACC 5040 - Data Analytics for Accounting3 unit(s) An introduction to data analysis using an analytic approach with accounting specific platforms. Focuses include extracting, transforming, and loading data; querying databases, visualizing data, and applying statistical concepts in accounting settings.
Prerequisites: BUS 5040 and ACC 5110 (may also be taken concurrently).
Hours: (Lecture, 2 hours; Laboratory, 2 hours)
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will:
- Apply critical analytical thinking to identify and frame business problems for analysis (PLO #3);
- Solve accounting and business-related problems using appropriate analytics tools (PLO# 1);
- Recommend appropriate actions to address real-world problems in accounting practice (PLO# 1);
- Identify and evaluate the veracity of sources of unstructured and structured data for use in analysis (PLO# 6);
- Discuss ethical issues as they pertain to the performance and use of data analysis (PLO# 5); and,
- Write effectively to communicate analysis results in the framework of the business problem (PLO# 2).
