MATH 1035 - Elementary Foundations of Math with Support IA3 unit(s) Problem solving, elementary set theory, number systems, operations on whole numbers, number theory, introduction to algebraic thinking. Recommended for students seeking a multiple subject teaching credential who are categorized as being recommended or required to be placed in a supported general education course.
Prerequisites: Mathematics Placement category III or IV.
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will:
- Use problem-solving strategies and mathematical reasoning to solve problems (PLO #1, #4);
- Represent numbers and interpret numerals using historical number systems, different base systems and the Hindu-Arabic system (PLO #2, #5);
- Use elementary set theory and Venn diagrams to solve problems (PLO #1); and,
- Define, identify, and use basic ideas of number theory, including prime numbers, composite numbers, divisibility tests, greatest common factor, and least common multiple (PLO #1, #8).
