PSYC 4005 - Career Options for Psychology Majors

This course is designed to help students recognize the opportunities provided by majoring in psychology, and how best to take advantage of those opportunities.  Topics include: the structure of the psychology major; study skills; careers for students with a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a doctorate; applying to graduate school; and professional presentation skills.

Satisfies the Student Success Skills requirement.

Course Learning Outcomes List
Specifically, upon successfully completing this course you will be able to: Identify career opportunities for psychology majors and describe the steps required to realize those opportunities by compiling a list of careers for Psychology majors that includes information about salaries, the requirement, for entry into each career (including degree requirements and other forms of professional preparation), and estimates regarding the likelihood of job openings for that career; Communicate effectively in formal and in written and oral modes by creating or updating a resume or curriculum vitae that describes your professional preparation; and Describe and act in accordance with the scientist practitioner model by articulating the logic underlying the structure of the Psychology major.
