NURS 5970 - Culminating Experience Preparation1-2 unit(s) For qualified postbaccalaureate students to prepare for the graduate nursing culminating experience. May be used for project, thesis, and comprehensive examination preparation.
Prerequisites: Admission to the School of Nursing MSN or consent of instructor.
Hours: 1-2
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will be able to:
1. Formulate a final graduate culminating experience topic or problem of significance to nursing that demonstrates originality and relevance to practice, education, leadership, or research (PLO 1, 4, 10);
2. Identify sources to critically appraise and synthesize scholarly literature for the background, significance, and rationale for the selected topic/problem;
3. Use the School of Nursing and University guidelines for graduate culminating experience requirements, including formatting, submission, and completion processes;
4. Identify and select a faculty chair and committee members for the chosen culminating experience, if indicated;
5. Submit the completed Graduate Culminating Experience Topic Form in accordance with School of Nursing and University procedures, include the Committee Form if applicable;
6. Develop a structured timeline, abstract, and proposal for the culminating experience that demonstrates organization, feasibility, and alignment with program requirements; and,
7. Demonstrate understanding of research ethics and regulatory requirements while working on the culminating experience, including submitting a proposal for review by the University Institutional Review Board (IRB), if appropriate.
