BUS 4901 - Business Professionalism1 unit(s) Consideration of the practical issues facing students as they transition from academe to industry careers in a wide range of fields. Reiteration of the tools and skills required to increase the likelihood of success following graduation. Emphasis will be on the importance of professionalism in both written and oral communication in the context of problem solving and ethical decision-making. Open to Business Administration Majors Only. Open to Seniors Only.
Prerequisites: Completion or concurrent enrollment in MGT 4900. BUS 3100 or ENGL 3007; completion of both the prerequisites and core curriculum courses of the business administration program; completion of 101 units.
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will:- Assess their individual attainment of the knowledge and skills essential for success in business and describe opportunities to further enhance their skill-set during their professional careers. The knowledge and skills to be assessed include the ability to:
- Identify the key issues related to a business situation, analyze these issues with respect to both the external and internal environment, develop plausible solutions and select an appropriate course of action which has a reasonable chance of success;
- Identify the major ethical issues and stakeholders in a business-related ethical problem and formulate a reasonable solution to appropriately resolve the problem;
- Communicate effectively through class discussion, formal presentations and written assignments both individually and within a group setting. The ability to communicate your thoughts to others clearly, concisely and effectively is essential in the business world; and,
- Describe and apply key concepts from the fields of Accounting, Business Law, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Ethics and Social Responsibility, Finance, Management, Marketing, Operations Management and Statistics; and
- Demonstrate professional skills and behavior that facilitate a rapid transition into the professional workplace, including the ability to:
- Prepare a professional resume;
- Demonstrate effective interview skills; and,
- Demonstrate professional etiquette.
