SW 5960 - Graduate Project Advising I1 unit(s) (Formerly Graduate Project) Provides advanced social work students with support and structure to develop a proposal for a graduate project that can contribute to the advancement of social work practice.
Prerequisites: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in SW 5032, completion of SW 5020 and SW 5025.
Course Learning Outcomes List The graduate project is intended to provide students with the opportunity to:
1. Possess the skil1s to contribute to the knowledge base of the social work profession by completing an independent capstone endeavor and sharing it through a published document and presentation to the community;
2. Expand her/his skills that will continue to enhance social work practice;
3. Demonstrate a spirit of inquiry that is characterized by curiosity and a motivation to learn about others whose lives are different from one’s own and are sensitive to cultural and ethical implicatlons of research;
4. Apply knowledge about the integrative practice framework from course work and practicum to a graduate project;
5. Demonstrate the ability to conceptualize a capstone effort that is discriminating, ethical, and self-critical and needing continual development;
6. Demonstrate the ability to critique practice and theoretical frameworks to compile a comprehensive literature review and apply this knowledge to implications for social work practice;
7. Participate in the development of knowledge that contributes to an advanced understanding of social issues facing the Central Valley region and helps improve social conditions in the region; and
8. Analyze research data and offer recommendations based on findings related to social work practice, policy, and future research.
