Prerequisites: SPAN 1010 or equivalent.
Course Learning Outcomes List Students in this course will:
A)
1. Use greetings and leave-taking expressions; offer apologies;
2. Make simple social introductions of self and others;
3. Ask and tell time of day, day of week, date;
4. Order a “simple” meal;
5. Negotiate for a taxi ride;
6. Negotiate for a·hotel room;
7. Buy a bus or train ticket;
8. Give directions on how to go from one place to another;
9. Respond to questions about nationality, marital status, occupation, date and place of birth, and other basic personal data; and
10. Assist (interpret for) someone else in any of the above situations.
B)
1. Understand greetings, leave-taking expressions and other social noises;
2. Understand Spanish name structure and titles used in intro ductions;
3. Understand expressions of time as given on the radio, TV or used orally;
4. Understand restaurant and other “eating” expressions;
5. Understand the number system in prices being quoted; some currencies;
6. Understand description of rooms and facilities;
7. Understand fares, routes, and other ticket information;
8. Understand directions on how to go from one place to another; locations;
9. Understand questions about nationality, marital status, occupation, date and place of birth, and other basic personal data;
10. Understand simple, direct orders from police and other officials; and
11. Understand all of the above when heard over the telephone.
