NURS 4240 - R.N. to B.S.N. Seminar3 unit(s) (Formerly A.D.N. to B.S.N. Seminar) Nursing students will reflect on their education and experiences to better understand the application and implications on professional nursing practice. Students will create a portfolio demonstrating their ability to provide care throughout a patient’s lifespan, including within the four spheres of care: promoting health and well-being, managing chronic diseases, assisting with restorative care, and providing hospice and palliative support.
Prerequisites: Admission to the RN-BSN nursing program and prior completion, or concurrent enrollment in all remaining nursing courses.
Course Learning Outcomes List Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Apply ethical comportments in one’s practice, reflecting nursing’s mission to society, including taking corrective measures to decrease implicit biases at the interpersonal and institutional levels to promote health equity (PLOs 1,3,6,9)

- Identify strategies to promote the transition from novice to expert professional nurses. (PLOs 2,3,5,9)

- Demonstrate an understanding of the multifaceted factors that influence health, encompassing personal, social, economic, and environmental dimensions, specifically focusing on social determinants of health. (PLOs 3,7)

- Develop a sustainable professional nursing identity that reflects nursing’s characteristics and values.(PLOs 5,9,10)

- Engage in self-reflection to foster personal health, resilience, well-being, and lifelong learning in acquiring nursing expertise and asserting leadership. (PLO 10)

- Design a professional portfolio to demonstrate knowledge, facts, and skills across multiple situations and contexts within nursing practice. (PLO 10)

- Demonstrate competency in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations across the lifespan and within the four spheres of care (disease prevention/promotion of health and wellbeing, chronic disease care, regenerative or restorative care, and hospice/palliative/supportive care). - Evaluate how effectively one communicates across diverse identities, including race, ethnicity, religion, and gender, while acknowledging the cultural nuances of cultural identity within each group.(2,3,6)
