MUS 4670 - Advanced Orchestral Instruments1 unit(s) Advanced instruction in orchestral instruments; strings, woodwinds, brasses, and percussions. For music majors whose performance medium is in one of these categories. May be repeated for a total of 8 units.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of junior-level performance examination.
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will:
• Be familiar with basic research and bibliography techniques and music research source material;
• Be able to write clear, engaging narrative about historical, stylistic, and analytic elements of music gauged to communicate effectively with a target audience;
• Write a clear, engaging and effective self-biography appropriate to program content (Senior Recital);
• Summarize research for music presented in senior recital in the form of program notes to be included in the recital program; provide bibliographical data to the instructor in a separate document (Senior Recital); or
• Write a substantial scholarly research paper on a selected topic (Senior Project, general); or
• Describe the creative process, specific musical structures and appropriate programmatic elements for each composition included in the senior composition portfolio (Senior Project, composition).
