MUS 2480 - Jazz Ensemble1 unit(s) Study and performance of repertoire and styles for the jazz ensemble. Students participate in jazz concerts and study improvisation; field trips and off-campus performances may be required by the instructor. May be repeated for a total of 8 units.
Prerequisites: An acceptable degree of performance skill and consent of instructor.
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will:
- Understand the relationship between jazz and its place in American history and culture through performance of historically relevant music;
- Engage in performances in both the university and local communities;
- Obtain listening and critical thinking skills through self-reflective analysis of group audio recordings as well as evaluation of group performances;
- Create and improvise music; and
- Develop individual and group performance techniques.
