MGT 4900 - Business Policy3 unit(s) Consideration of the business enterprise as a total system in a total environment. Analysis and evaluation of the problems, opportunities, and ethical responsibilities which face the chief executive of a business firm. Emphasis will be on the formulation and implementation of various strategies. Extensive use of the technique of case problem analysis.
Prerequisites: BUS 3100 or ENGL 3007; completion of both the prerequisites and core curriculum courses of the business administration program; completion of 101 units.
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will be able to:
- Use analytic tools and techniques to analyze industry environments and competitors within that industry (PLO #1, 3);
- Identify relevant concepts and best practice associated with firms’ missions, visions, intents, resources, capabilities and core competencies (PLO #1);
- Determine how firms formulate and implement strategies to meet the needs of customers in specific markets (PLO #1, 3);
- Identify the appropriate balance between the needs of the various stakeholders of an organization such as employees, shareholders, the Board of Directors, customers, suppliers and the environment (PLO#1, 3, 5);
- Identify which businesses and products to include in a firm’s portfolio and how to manage their synergies (PLO #1, 3, 5);
- Analyze strategic issues and problems, recognize and assess strategic alternatives and recommend specific actions to implement desired strategies to enhance critical thinking skills (PLO #1, 3, 5);
- Effectively participate in team assignments and will sharpen their interpersonal skills such as communication, teamwork, collaboration and conflict management and understand how these skills are vital components of effective organizations (PLO #2, 3, 4, 5); and,
- Improve communication skills through class discussion and assignments both individually and as a team (PLO #2, 4).
