JOUR 3012 - Journalism Laboratory

3 unit(s)


Practical course in newspaper writing with emphasis on timely coverage of campus and area events and personalities:  feature writing, interviews, human interest, student government reporting, photo judgment, and some newspaper layout and headline writing.  Culminates weekly in distribution of a newspaper.  May be repeated for a maximum of 6 units.

Prerequisites: Consent of instructor.  JOUR 2150 strongly recommended.

Course Learning Outcomes List
Your successful completion of this course will help you:

• Describe the unique structural and stylistic aspects of several different types of news stories;

• Describe the editorial processes that generate appropriate content for a university student newspaper;

• Demonstrate news writing form and style appropriate for a university student newspaper;

• Develop and conduct background research for content appropriate for a university student newspaper; and

• Develop and conduct person-to-person interviews relevant to timely news stories.
