GEND 3200 - Chicana Activism and Identity

(Formerly Gender Roles in the Chicano Community) (Offered under the subjects GEND and ETHS) An interdisciplinary exploration of the historical contexts, political institutions, social practices and cultural formations that have produced Chicana feminisms and identities.  We will explore the intersectionality of race, class, gender, and sexuality and multiple ways in which Chicana feminist scholarship has explored and theorized the lives of Chicanas.

Course Learning Outcomes List
The purpose of this course is: To better understand the activism and identity formation of Chicanas and Latina; To better understand the lived-real realities of Chicanas and Latinas throughout the U.S.; To better understanding the historical contexts, political institutions, social practices and cultural formations that produced multiple forms of feminisms; and To better understand the interdisciplinary scholarship on the Chicana and Latina experience.
