ETHS 3115 - Chicanx/Latinx Cultural Production

3 unit(s)
This course examines Chicanx/Latinx cultural production, creative expression, and social change as they relate to race/ethnicity and other forms of power, including class, gender, and sexuality. Tracing the historical evolution of Chicanx/Latinx creative and communal works through contemporary practices, the course provides a space for investigating cultural traditions through visual, literary, performative, public, and/or political forms. Students explore and interpret these works using critical frameworks that illuminate how cultural practices challenge power, privilege, and oppression. Throughout the course, students analyze and evaluate significant cultural expressions while also engaging thoughtfully with contemporary practices connected to community, identity, and social justice.
