A survey of British literature to 1800 with attention to the historical development of literature from the Beowulf poet through the ages of Chaucer, the Renaissance poets and dramatists, to the neoclassical period.

Satisfied GE Area 3B, prerequisite for English major, optional 1 of 4 prerequisites for Liberal Studies ENGL concentration

Prerequisites: Completion of G.E. area 1A.

Course Learning Outcomes List
Course Objectives include: 1. Understanding of the major trends of British literary his­tory from the beginnings to 1800.; 2. Familiarity with major texts in British literature to 1800; and 3. Ability to apply critical analysis to literary and historical questions in British literature from 1800 to the present.
