EDSS 4855 - Secondary Education Field Practicum II

5 unit(s)


(Formerly EDSC 4855) Students will be assigned to a mentor teacher at a school site where they will meet a portion of the required 600 clinical hours and gain practical experience in learning to become a credentialed teacher. Taken concurrently with EDSS 4400.

Corequisites: Taken concurrently with EDSS 4300 and 4400.

Prerequisites: Must be cleared to student teach from the Field Experiences office and completed EDSS 4850.

Course Learning Outcomes List
The course aligns with the six Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs) upheld by the California  Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). The TPEs include: 

1. Engaging and Supporting Students in Learning 

2. Creating and Maintaining Effective Environments for Student Learning 

3. Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Student Learning 

4. Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for Students 

5. Assessing Student Learning 

6. Developing as a Professional Educator 

*Subject Specific Pedagogical Skills 

• Credential candidates will be able to utilize specific pedagogical skills to make subject matter  comprehensible for students in their content area (TPE 3, 4).  

• Credential candidates will be able to use and interpret assessments of student learning in their  content area using formative and summative assessments (TPE 4, 5).  

• Credential candidates will be able to engage and support students in learning during classroom  instruction in their content area (TPE 1, 2).  

• Credential candidates will be able to plan instruction and design meaningful learning  experiences for students in their content area (TPE 3, 4).  

• Credential candidates will be able to create and maintain effective environments for student  learning (TPE 2).  

• Credential candidates will be able to develop their pedagogy through participation in professional development events at their school site, educational conferences, and university sponsored workshops (TPE 6).
