EDIT 4170 - Educational Technology Foundations

Focuses on the development of technology proficiencies. Students develop strategies and skills for teaching with technology in K-12 settings. Note: EDIT 4170 satisfies requirements for the Preliminary Credential. EDIT 4710 satisfies the requirement for the Professional Clear Credential if the Preliminary was a Ryan Act program issue.

Prerequisites: CS 2000 or equivalent and admission to MSCP, SSCP, or Education Specialist Credential Program.

Course Learning Outcomes List
You will be able to:

  1. Use basic computer hardware and software and other technology effectively;
  2. Apply knowledge of legal and ethical ssues when developing technology-based lessons;
  3. Show understanding of privacy and safety issues;
  4. Create products that are compliant with copyright laws and fair use guidelines;
  5. Use applications to manage records;
  6. Use computers to communicate through printed media;
  7. Utilize various computer-based collaborative tools;
  8. Demonstrate competency in the use of electronic research tools, including issues concerning authenticity, reliability, and bias of data gathered;
  9. Examine a variety of current educational digital media and use established selection criteria to evaluate materials;
  10. Create and maintain effective learning environments using computer-based technology; and,
  11. Analyze best practices and research findings on the use of technology and designs lessons accordingly.
