Analyzes competing views of government’s role in a market economy. After reviewing a variety of exchange and intervention alternatives, such issues as inequality, law and order, political-industrial organization, and the environment are discussed.

Satisfies upper-division writing proficiency requirement.

Course Learning Outcomes List
The purpose of this course is:

  1. To understand the significance of markets;
  2. To anticipate and explain the effects of market interventions;
  3. To understand the role of the political process in a market economy;
  4. To have a clear understanding of the impact which the abandonment of free markets can have; and
  5. To clearly communicate ideas, opinions and reasoning in writing.
