ECON 3205 - Introduction to Econometrics

A study of econometric techniques for measurement of economic relationships, analysis and forecasting of business situations, and testing of economic theories.

Prerequisites: ECON 2500, 2510 and MATH 1600 or 1602 or 1610, or consent of instructor.

Hours: (Lecture, 3 hours; laboratory, 2 hours)

Course Learning Outcomes List
The course objective is to introduce students to basic concepts in probability and statistics of relevance to managerial decision making. Topics include:

  • Basic data analysis;
  • Random variables and probability distributions;
  • Sampling distributions;
  • Interval estimation;
  • Hypothesis testing;
  • Simple regression;
  • Multiple regression; and
  • Time series analysis;

Numerous examples are chosen from quality-control applications, finance, marketing, micro firm data, and macro economic data.
