CJ 4915 - Sex Crimes and Gender Issues in Criminal Justice3 unit(s) Focuses on crimes perpetrated against women, the criminal justice system’s response to such crimes, gender disparity in sentencing, gender disparity in corrections, sexual discrimination, and sexual harassment in the criminal justice system. Discussion and research will center on historical and contemporary issues of gender-based criminality, the victimization of women, and on such crimes as stalking, forcible rape, molestation, prostitution, and incest. Consists of lecture, discussion, case study and legislative analyses, examinations, and socio-legal research and writing.

Course Learning Outcomes List This course provides students with a thorough understanding of the history and contemporary issues affecting women in the criminal justice system. It’s expected that the following course learning objectives will be achieved:
1. Introduce and discuss theories about female offenders;
2. Identify attributing factors to women’s offending;
3. Understand women’s victimization and its connection with women’s offending;
4. Analyze different crimes committed by women;
5. Compare similarities and differences of women’s offending with male offending;
6. Discuss the consequences of women’s incarceration;
7. Understand sentencing and social policies in a response to women’s offending
