CDEV 4965 - Child Development Senior Seminar

Capstone seminar for Child Development majors participating in senior internships. Includes discussion of career and professional issues, diverse applications of child development, and discussion and evaluation of internship experiences. Open to CDEV majors only. Open to Juniors and Seniors only.

Corequisites: CDEV 4948.

Prerequisites: CDEV/PSYC 3010, CDEV 3170, CDEV 3180, senior standing, and completion of a WP course with a minimum grade of C-.

Course Learning Outcomes List
 

  1. Develop professional written, verbal, and practical skills and attitudes throughout the semester. (PLO 4)
  2. Create and defend a “professional worldview” that demonstrates self-reflection, is informed by child development knowledge, primary research and relates to your personal career goals. (PLOs 1, 2, 4)
  3. Employ high-level learning practices (i.e., analyze, evaluate, challenge, research, integrate, propose, etc.) that results in a deeper understanding of the field of Child Development and that produces “deliverables” demonstrating, CDEV knowledge, senior-level academic rigor, critical thinking and leadership skills, etc. Deliverables include but are not limited to developing a defensible position on an issue relevant to the discipline, finding and evaluating sources of evidence to support an applied project or practice, researching and presenting evidence-based perspectives, presenting and defending a grant proposal to an audience of students and faculty, etc.
  4. Apply increasingly effective teamwork skills, behaviors, and goals in your group project(s). (PLO 4)
  5. Apply increasingly effective interview skills, throughout the semester.
  6. Analyze and reflect on your transition from student to professional, and on your development as a professional.
  7. Create a professional portfolio that: (a) documents evidence of the Stan State Child Development Program Competencies and (b) narrates your unique qualifications as a future graduate of the Stan State Child Development Program. In addition, you may be required to present and defend your professional portfolio to Child Development students, faculty, administrators, and/or community professionals.
  8. Apply your knowledge of child development, research-based developmentally appropriate practices, professionalism, and ethical responsibilities in the activities you participate in. 
  9. Report the impact of your applied knowledge in the Internship Reflections. (PLOs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
