BIOL 4100 - Immunology3 unit(s) Introduction to the basic concepts and principles of acquired and innate immunity as they relate to the human body.
Prerequisites: BIOL 3310 or BIOL 3350 with a grade of C- or higher, or MBIO 3010 or CHEM 4400, or consent of instructor.
Course Learning Outcomes List By the end of this course, the student should:
1. understand the key features relating the structure and function of the main components involved in the immune responses including antigens, antibodies, leucocytes and the various organs and tissues of the lymphoid system;
2. appreciate the molecular and cellular basis of B- and T-cell responses, the importance of cell to cell interactions and the cytokine network;
3. be able to differentiate between protective and potentially damaging immune responses; and
4. understand the principles behind representative immunoassays.
