ANTH 3555 - Aztecs, Mayas, and Predecessors3 unit(s) (Formerly ANTH 3550) A general survey course designed to acquaint the student with the development of the pre-historic civilizations of Mesoamerica.
Satisfies G.E. area UD-4 and the Sociocultural Inquiry Requirement.
Course Learning Outcomes List Upon successful completion of the course each student will:
• Exhibit a clear understanding of the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of the investigation of Mesoamerican prehistory;
• Demonstrate that you have acquired a working acknowledge of Mesoamerican prehistory, the broad sweep of cultural development in the area, the formation of identities that continue to influence modern groups in the region, and the impact of European contact through exams and/ or the research project;
• Engage with and critically evaluate theories about cultural continuity in the region, the interaction between people and the environment, and the dynamics of culture contact through the class discussions, exams, research project, and the research presentation; and
• Communicate reflections effectively in writing as evidenced in exams and research paper and orally ass demonstrated in class discussions and the research presentation.
