AGST 4940 - Ag Studies Internship1-4 unit(s) Supervised work in an agriculture-related agency or business, designed to emphasize technical and employability skill development including construction of a professional portfolio. The experience will be under the joint supervision of the employer and faculty member. A total of 45 hours per unit of credit. Course may be repeated for up to 8 units total.
Prerequisites: Junior or senior-level Agricultural Studies major and consent of instructor.
Course Learning Outcomes List Students will be able to:
- Describe and illustrate fundamental knowledge of growth cycle, crop requirements, harvest and storage of major vegetable species, with a detailed understanding of influences of management practices;
- Students will be able to explain the biotic and abiotic factors that affect vegetable growth and health and how to modify them to optimize plant productivity in an environmentally friendly way;
- Describe the different modern sustainable practices utilized in commercial vegetable production operations and in urban areas;
- Develop management plans for soil fertility, irrigation, and pest control for various vegetable species; and,
- Apply sustainable production practices by establishing and maintaining vegetable plots.
