EDUC 4010 - Multilingual Education in the Content Areas3 unit(s) Formerly EDML 5000: Multilingual Education in the Content Areas. This course is designed to ensure that CTEL candidates meet the California Teacher of English Learners (CTEL) competencies. CTEL candidates will be equipped to address such diversity with cultural and linguistic responsiveness, English language development strategies, and philosophies that build upon the cultural and linguistic assets all students possess. Furthermore, the EDUC 4000 course is designed to help pre/in-service teachers seeking CTEL certification to develop English Language Development instruction that focuses on disciplinary content understanding, analytical practices, and academic uses of the English language, while simultaneously developing English learners’ linguistic and academic capacities. May require K-12 student observations in public schools; must have access to K-12 students; course may be repeated up to 3 times for a total of 3 units.
This course satisfies the requirements of Standards 4 & 5 of the CTEL Authorization requirements established by the CCTC.
Prerequisites: Must be either pre-service teacher credential candidate in TED or an in-service teacher seeking CTEL authorization.
Hours: 3 lecture hours
