PSYC 3380 - Psychology in Film3 unit(s) Provides an examination of psychological concepts in contemporary and historical films, with a focus on mental health, relationships, gender, multicultural factors and the impact of popular films on society. Topics include personality, psychopathology, mental health treatment, family dynamics, and accuracy in the depiction of psychological distress. Students will gain the ability to critically evaluate the portrayal of psychological themes and behavior in film. Readings and lectures are connected to examined films. Students will learn by participating in lectures and group discussions, viewing films, reading articles, and completing assignments. Due to copyright law, this course will only be offered in a face-to-face format.
Satisfies Area D Psychology as a Social Science within the psychology major requirements.
Prerequisites: PSYC 2010; completion of PSYC 3350 recommended
